GOAL ZERO is looking for an Electronics Product Regulatory Manager to work closely with our Product Development, Legal, Supply Chain and Quality teams. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience with electronic consumer product goods compliance and will be able to develop and execute a compliance program. This position will help identify compliance and standards requirements for various products, including those that apply to specific technologies or product categories (e.g. Bluetooth, Lithium batteries, AC/DC converters, lights, etc.) and certifications required by regional regulatory bodies (e.g. CE certification in Europe, TELEC in Japan, etc.). This role will include collaboration with cross-functional teams, including working with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Legal, Supply Chain and foreign manufacturing partners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists a fast-growing company with keeping up with a constant need to identify and analyze regulatory and product safety standards both within the U.S. and abroad to determine their applicability to Goal Zero's various products.
  • Conducts risk/value assessments
  • Is familiar with, proactively researches and potentially helps develop industry-wide regulatory safety standards
  • Directly liaises with foreign contractors and manufacturers to:
    • Ensure appropriate product labeling (applicable to regulatory and safety standards)
    • Resolve any issues or incidents that require corrective action at the manufacturer
    • Process change requests
  • Engages with 3rd party testing laboratories to receive relevant product certifications (or supports such activities being conducted by 3rd party contractors in China)
  • Participates in Goal Zero's Safety Committee with Quality Assurance Manager, Testing Manager and Legal Counsel


  • Engages with Product Development team members to advise on regulatory requirements and safety standards relevant to new products
  • Engages with Testing Manager to assure product testing adequately satisfies relevant certification requirements
  • Engages with Quality Assurance manager to develop and refine quality standards that align with relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Actively participates with all teams in problem solving


  • Prepares standard work documents for process management, incident management and other needs
  • Collects and organizes relevant product certifications so that they can be provided on demand
  • Responds to internal and external requests for documents, reports, and certifications and provides relevant and actionable analysis on the applicability of such documents
  • Prepares for, organizes, and accommodates potential government or customer audits
  • Documents compliance by completing approval applications; recording test results; preparing investigative reports; preparing and filing Declarations of Conformity; maintaining compliance database, including tracking restricted chemicals and substances
  • Prepares compliance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing measurement data and trends.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 5+ years of related work experience in product regulatory compliance or legal support, preferably in electronic consumer products
  • Bachelor's Degree with technical emphasis (equivalent experience will be considered)
  • Project or program management experience a plus
  • Experience engaging with UL or other standards-creation entities a huge plus

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment - Primary
  • Evening and weekend work as job duties demand, especially in collaborating and syncing up with overseas partners
  • Domestic and International Travel up to 10% may be required
  • Occasionally requires lifting up to 50lbs as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
