Position Summary The Director of Upward Bound is responsible for oversight and management of the Upward Bound program as prescribed in the grant regulations and compliance with all reporting and documenting requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversees and manages the operation, budget, and personnel of the grant program, including supervising staff, organizing, scheduling, developing curriculum, and coordinating activities throughout the academic year and summer program, etc. Oversees the identification, selection, and assessment of program participants, including preparation and documentation of participant's educational and career plans, referral of participants for assessment of aptitudes, interests, and scholastic needs, etc. Provide support programs and workshops for participants and parents and serve as a role model Provides participants with information and assistance on educational opportunities, financial aid, and other college networking mechanisms Develops and utilizes evaluation instruments to assess program operations, prepares annual and final performance reports, and prepares grant applications for continuation of services or expansion of related services Coordinate program operations with other college and community services and interpret goals and directions of the program for the college, high schools, and the community. Organize, supervise, and direct summer program for eligible participants Position Specifications Minimum Qualifications EducationMaster's degree in related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education ExperienceThree years of related experience leadership and management. Experience in a community college or higher education setting and experience working with distance learners preferred. Licenses/Certifications Equivalency Statement Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Desired Qualifications Experience in student services at an open admissions college Successful grant writing experience Prior experience with designing, managing, or implementing services similar in nature Positive work experience in Native American communities, preferably from the Wind River Indian Reservation Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong personal work ethic and high degree of personal integrity Effective interpersonal and communication skills Ability to relate to and work with a diverse student population Ability to maintain confidentiality and to effectively identify and resolve problems Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both within the College and the community Ability to organize, prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion Level of Supervision This position operates with significant autonomy with the guidance of the Vice President of Student Affairs. Physical RequirementsTasks require variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Regular talking, hearing and seeing required in the normal course of performing the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Environmental ConditionsWork is generally performed in an office or on site at high schools under very limited supervision. Traveling and evening/weekend work is required.
